[Travel] Malacca 2D1N

The desire of going to travel is never ending.  I suppose it is a symbol of getting exhausted or bored with current working life?  When you couldn't do anything to make any changes, a short escape is considered as quite a relief.  What a life.

Malacca remains as my top favorite travel destination, even though I had made couples of visit to this beautiful town before.  Just two-hour drive from KL, you'll be able to recharge yourself well over a weekend with splendid view of various places and of course - with tonnes of delicious food.

This time I made a short 2D1N trip to Malacca with my sisters and I should name is as a FOOD trip.

[Food Review] Coffeeright Place, Ipoh

Happy Malaysia day!

It's a backdated post (as usual). I guess I'll die of starving if blogging is the only source of income, lol.

Visited Coffeeright Cafe couple weeks ago, not a new cafe in Ipoh but it's new for me since I've never realise it's exixtence before! It is located at Jalan Kampar, just opposite to Methodist Girls School, .

Stepping into this cafe, I was quite impressed by the interior decoration.  It is just a small shop lot, but the efforts they put onto every corner are obviously seen. The eye catching skylines of New York on the wall had clearly defined the theme of this cafe - urban, innovative and freedom.

Wide varieties available on the menu. You may find breakfast, asian delights, pastas, sandwiches, poultry and meats on the menu. The two pages of drinks menu is another plus point for this cafe.

Cheese Baked rice with Pork
The chef was really generous by topping the rice with a thick layer of cheese. The taste was pretty decent, just the pork meat was a little bit overcooked. I guess this is the main reason contributed to my high cholesterol reading in my recent blood taking result.

Fish and Chips
(I'm not a fans of fish and chips, so yeah- no comment for this dish)

Signature drinks: Nutella Latte
You would definitely like this if you're a chocolate and coffee lover!

Forgot to mention, free plain water is provided :D

The desserts

Wanna try their delectable looking desserts, but unfortunately our stomach have no more space for them.  Perhaps you guys should try out and let me know how's the taste like next time?

To my surprise, the price in this cafe much cheaper than most other cafes in Ipoh.  Most of the main courses fall below RM20, sounds great right?  I would definitely come back in future :D

Food Review: Stan & Brew Roast Coffee, Ipoh

Happy new year people!  Feeling hungover after countdown party last night?  It's been a while since the last time I blogged, so sorry for the long hiatus! My life is getting dull and dull these days, my daily routines are nothing other than working, eating and sleeping.  Duh.  Anyway, there was something different last Sunday because I went tried out a new cafe in Ipoh with bf!  I gotta thank him so much since I had been craving for nice food so long.  For your information, the most "luxury" in Slim River (where I'm working currently) is KFC, you can imagine how suffering a foodie to live here. Lol.

I shall stop nagging and let's get back to topic.  Haha!

There are so many new cafes popping up in Ipoh recently, Stan & Brew Roast Coffee is one of them.  It was newly opened few months ago, located at Soho Ipoh, somewhere near to Sam Tet school.  Stepping into this cafe, I was like "wow, such a beautiful place!".  The brick wall, the lighting, the sofas, the Christmas decoration and the most important - coffee aroma, gave us a warm welcome.

Love the clean and tidy interior

Bye-bye Christmas, hello new year!

There are wide varieties of food which you can choose from.  For instance, spaghetti, steaks, chicken chops, fish fillet, sandwiches and desserts.  Stan and Brew has their own roasted coffee too, so make sure you do not miss out if you have chance to visit here next time.

His hot mocha

My hot cappuccino
It was so smooth and tasted really good.
Unfortunately the air conditioner there was too strong, it turned cold just in a while.

Starter - Wild mushroom soup
Taste average, to me it was really concentrated.

His Herbs chicken chop

My New York fish and chips
It tastes like most ordinary fish and chips, however it was too fishy for me even though I had squeezed damn a lot of lemon juice onto it.

Highlight of the day - Plant dessert!
Cute isn't it?
I shall not reveal much about this dessert and let you yourself go try it out next time!
Us =)

Conclusion:
The main courses in this cafe are just average, not really impressive though.  Yet, you shall try their coffee and dessert because they successfully satisfied my crave for nice food!  The ambiance is good as well, not really crowded even though it was Sunday.  Good enough to order a cup of coffee and enjoy some quite moment here.
Price range: For main course RM20-30, for coffee is around RM10.

[Food Review] The Happy 8 | Secret Garden | Zento @ Ipoh

While waiting for job offer letter from ministry of health, food hunting is the best way to kill boredom and make use of my leisure time.  It was also the main reason of growing horizontally/ put on weights recently, other than having sedentary lifestyle for months.  Waist length is increasing inch by inch from day to day, hope I still can fit in all my formal pants by the time I start working later :/

Back to topic, this time around I had my food hunting in Ipoh!
Instead of bean sprouts chicken or hor fun, thanks bf for bring me to so many atas restaurants during my last visit to his hometown. *giggles*

1. The Happy 8

It was newly opened in Ipoh old town.  If you didn't notice, you may have miss it out when passing by because there's no signboard outside o.0 I got to know this place from newspaper for the awesome interior design which come from designers from different countries.  With the concept of natural and vintage, this cafe is well decorated with many wood pieces including the giant wooden front door.  I was like "wow" (imagine me with the expression of jaw-dropping) once I stepped into this place.

We were greeted by a few young ladies at the front desk.  For your information, this place was modified from an old double storeys shop.  Downstairs there's the cafe while upstairs is the guesthouse.  Food ordering and payment were made in advance at the front desk, while food will be served after be seated.

See the decoration?

Where is the food? Here you are :D

Omelet rice - a signature dish as recommended by the front desk.
Look like "nasi goreng pataya" in mamak though, believe me there's something different, just not really worth for the price :/

His salmon rice.
The salmon was grilled pretty good, just in a way too plain to be served with white rice.
Haha.

My papaya milk - Had been craved for this since I was back from Taiwan.
Unfortunately, this one failed to satisfy my crave, too milky for me >.<

Conclusion: This is a great place to hang around with people for its cozy ambiance.  However, food is pretty pricey for the food quality, not really worthy to be honest.  You gonna love this if you love taking photos around but re-visit? No really :/

2. Secret Garden

Another lovely place in the town.  From the name itself, you need to pass through a small alley before reaching.  Reminded me the story of secret garden, a hidden garden behind the wall, so mysterious.  This bistro was a bungalow originally and was modified into this fine dining venue.  Not relatively high end though, somewhere in between 5 stars restaurant and garden cafe, good enough to minimize the awkwardness I usually have during fine dining.

Talking about the food and drinks, there are wide varieties of option available on the menu.  Spaghetti, steak, pork knuckle, soups, salads, fruits juices, liquors as well as some finger foods.

Here are the food we ordered :D

Cappuccino soup as appetizer (Yes, cappuccino!)
The taste is quite special and new to me, highly recommended!

My aglio olio - Taste average, served with garlic bread and a big juicy mushroom (thumb up for the mushroom LOL)

His spaghetti (Forgot the name)

Conclusion: The food is not bad even though the price is quite high too :/ Thumb up for the great environment and service.  A great place to dine especially for celebrating special occasions (birthday, anniversary, gathering, you name it!)

3. Sushi Zento

Visited this place for lunch before leaving Ipoh.  A typical japanese restaurant like Sushi zanmai, Sakae sushi or sushi king.  Serving sushi, temaki, sashimi, teppanyaki, donburi, ramen and some of these come in set meal too. Didn't take many photos on that day because we were starving after coming back from Taiping Lol!

My grilled pork donburi, served with miso soup
Taste quite good, not sure if it is because of I was too hungry that time :p

Conclusion: I kinda love this place, very spacious and with friendly service.  The foods are not bad and at affordable price.  I shall try their sushi next time! :))

So that's all for the food entry this time, hope you really like it!
Three restaurants in one review, sorry if making you hungry right now, hahaha!
Till then, see you next time! xoxo

[Food review] Brut Cafe, Kampar

Hi foodies, another food review for you, especially if you're staying in Kampar,  studying in Kampar UTAR, or you so happen to visit Kampar one day.

This review gonna be a bit different from the previous one because the shop is owned by someone I knew - Kenry, my ex-schoolmate.  Unbelievable huh? I just graduated from university and not even start working yet but he became a boss already.  Shall I 自愧不如? (be ashamed of myself)
But then I'm not receiving any benefits from him, so this review is based on my own opinions without any biases.

Back to topic.

From the name Brut Cafe, it means raw or unrefined in French.  That's why you won't be surprise to see there is not much decoration here.  Perhaps less is more, the interior is simple but nice. Good lighting is another plus point.  Together with the music circling around, I felt extra comfortable here.

Cozy, clean and simple design

"All day breakfast", this is what I heard before stepping into this cafe.
Flippin' through the menu, there are a few varieties of pasta, sandwich, egg benedict and coffee which you may choose from.  If you couldn't decide which one to order (like me), feel free to ask recommendation from the boss, he will explain and decide for you patiently.

So here are the food we had :))

Bacon carbonara spaghetti
Tasted average, would be nicer if it is more cheesy

Egg benedict
Seems to be small portion, but large enough to make you feel full
Taste good, I kinda like this one over the spaghetti

Iced latte
A big thumb up for this even though it looks like normal "kopi ais" in most kopitiam
Typical kopitiam won't offer something as good quality as this one

If you were thinking food with good quality must be very pricey, I'm going to prove you wrong.  Two main courses with two drinks cost us around RM 35 only, so what you say?
I will definitely re-visit if I go Kampar again.  Hope to have more choices of food on the menu next time :))

If you ever have a chance to open a shop, what kind of shop it gonna be?
I used to dream of opening a pastry house, how about you?

[Review] Geographer Cafe @ Jonker Street, Malacca

If you ever have a chance to visit Malacca, I would highly recommend you to spend an evening in Geographer Cafe, a cafe with great ambiance located in Jonker street which you shouldn't miss out.

Heard of this cafe quite some time ago because the movie 《夏日麼麼茶》 starring Richie Ren and Sammi Cheng.  However, never had a chance to drop by until this time, my 4th time of visiting Malacca (God knows why I'm so into this town).  All thanks to Xiang Xiang (friend of my sister from Taiwan) for insisting to pay a visit, I fell in love with this cafe immediately, or I should say magically.

Geographer cafe is also known as “地理學家咖啡館”

Geographer cafe was established since year 1999, operated in the pre-war colonial building.  Stepping into this cafe, looking at the old posters hanging on the wall, gave me a false sense of stepping into 60's or 70's. It was well decorated with antiques and some old photos along the theme of retro.  Don't be surprise, this cafe can be so crowded and flooded with tourists from all over the world, especially during weekend.  Thus, we choose to be seated upstairs to enjoy some quiet moment.

We were seated in front of the windows to have a view of jonker street from different angle

Spacious and cozy environment

You can find antiques from a few decades ago

They serve local delights and western food if you wish to have a meal here.  Otherwise, you may order some beers, liquors, cocktails, mocktails, fruit juices or coffee if you wish to have a light drink in late evening.  I ordered Daiquiri, a cocktail of rum, lemonade and rock sugars.  It was quite refreshing and taste good for a cocktail beginner like me.

Daiquiri (RM 19.50)

We spent a few hours there, chatting and observing the story of this town through the windows.  No doubt, this cafe would be my first choice to have some relaxing moment if I ever come back to this town again.  Perhaps a book plus a cup of coffee would be more than enough for you to spend couples of hours here.

Ps: Come here in evening or night to have a better ambiance!

Till then, see you again!

The Daily Grind @ Bangsar village

The feeling was so surreal when my thesis presentation was ended.  Had been with my final year research project from thesis proposal to presentation for almost 1 year.  Excited?  Aha, I guess I gonna miss it, lol.

So as a celebration, The Daily Grind @ Bangsar village was the place chosen after number of obstacles. Haha, all thanks to the cab drivers who refused to send us to paradigm mall initially, or else we will never have the opportunity to dine in this restaurant.

I guess burger is the signature dish for this restaurant because there are wide varieties of burger on the menu with a few options sandwich and pasta.  You can browse the menu here

Let's have a look on what we had.

Down by the sea (RM 30)
Fresh red snapper fillet with herbs, breadcrumb and served with tartar sauce.
The fillets were so crunchy and fresh at every bites.
The most important point here is, the fillets were not oily at all.
Worth to try!

Chermoula salmon fillet burger (RM 29)

Chicken chermoula avocado (RM 29)

What I really love about this restaurant is that the ingredients used in preparing food are natural and fresh.  Despite of using a lot of msg like what in most restaurants, the chef enhances the food flavor by adding herbs and spices which make the foods less salty and less oily.  Other than that, the ketchup and chili sauce were made by themselves without adding any preservative.  It's a good place to dine if you opt for natural and healthy food.

Here end the review with my puffy face, lol

Till then, see you again! ^^

湖濱魚頭米之家 Woo Pin Fish Head Noodle

Woo Pin Fish Head Noodle

Taman Danau Desa,
58100 Kuala Lumpur.

Ps: 第一次用中文介紹美食,寫得不好請多多包涵呀~

Tram Car Cafe @ 32 Square, Section 19, PJ

Okay, a short one.
It was a dinner date with KC at Tram Car Cafe @ Three Two Square, PJ.
He picked this restaurant because he heard the food there quite nice.
So we went for a try!

In correspond to the name "Tram Car Cafe", this restaurant was designated based on the Portuguese tram car theme.
For your better understanding, this is how a tram car looks like :p

Photo taken from google

The environment was delightful and classy, however it was spoiled when they turned the radio on and it was channel 988. Not to say I dislike this channel, the point is, don't you think it was kinda weird and wasn't really match the atmosphere?  Hmmm...

Another thing was, I was a bit shocked when the waitress came to take our order.
She asked "Leng lui, 要吃什麼?" (in cantonese).

...........

Okay, big sweat on my forehead =.=lll

Forget about that, let's look at what we had for our dinner.

Bread with butter as starter

Chicken chop with brown gravy for me

Baked fish with white sauce for him

Honeydew juice for me
For me, the taste was just average, not bad and yet not impressive.  Luckily, the price was reasonable.  For fish and chicken were in the range of RM 15- RM 20 only.  It will be more expensive if you order lamb, beef or seafood.

Re-visit? Hmmm, maybe not.. :-X

That's all for this post, here I ended with my hungry face.
